Who are the Mennonites? What is a Mennonite? What is Anabaptism?
We’re a part of Mennonite Church USA, one of the denominations connected to the broader Anabaptist Christian movement that arose from the Radical Reformation in Europe 500 years ago. The first Anabaptists emphasized adult baptism following the decision to follow Jesus and the separation of church and state. Mennonites are named for Menno Simons, a Dutch Catholic priest who became Anabaptist. Today as Mennonites we seek to follow Jesus by rejecting violence and resisting injustice. Where do you meet?
On Sundays we meet at 5pm at the sanctuary of the Church of Reconciliation (110 N. Elliott Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514). We rent that evening worship space and the rest of the time we gather as a church in all sorts of places — at dinner groups in peoples’ homes, for a meeting at a coffee shop or a walk on a local trail.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We’re a pretty casual church — there’s usually folks in T-shirts and shorts or jeans and sandals, and maybe a few tucked-in shirts or dresses out there too.
How do I get involved?
The best way is to show up at one of our Sunday worship services at 5pm — we always have snacks or a meal after the service. We share updates through our bulletin or in-person. You can also check out our events calendar for other church activities.
